Baby Birth

Your First Scan

In pregnancy, first ultrasound scan will be dating scan, between 10 weeks and 14 weeks of pregnancy which has the option of 3D/4D Ultrasound Scan.
Ultrasound scans use sound waves to build a picture of the baby in the womb. The scans are painless, have no known side effects on mothers or babies, and can be carried out at any stage of pregnancy.

Trimester Chart

Given below shows monthly developing stages of the fetus from embryonic stage to the birth of the baby.

Month 1
This week marks the beginning of embryonic stage.The embryo developed at this stage is primitive (the size of poppy seed) with just two layers.

Month 2
Embryo develops into fetus. Some of the major organs, including the brain, heart, and lungs, plus the arms and legs are now growing and developing.

Month 3
This is the last week of first trimester. A grown fetus is as big as lemon and gradually develops the vocal cords, teeth and even fingerprints.

1^st Trismester

Month 4
The blood vessels of the baby are visible through thin skin. Following the next couple of weeks, the movement of baby's legs and arms can be felt.

Month 5
The lips, eyelids and eyebrows becomes more distinct and the baby start to look like a miniature newborn. Organs producing hormones start building up.

Month 6
With more tissues developing, the baby's brain is active now and is able to close and open the eyes. However lungs are still immature.

2^nd Trismester

Month 7
The baby can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs and body are beginning to plump up as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin.

Month 8
With all the parts of body functioning, The baby's head may be moved down to pelvis getting ready for birth.

Month 9
The 40-week fetus is continuing to grow hair and nails and is said to have completed full term pregnancy. Birth of baby can be in between the duration of 38 to 42 weeks.
